There is nothing quite like it!!

September 25th, 2008

Last Saturday, I participated in a Lean & Fit class where as I entered the training area I noticed some balloons.  Never thinking that the balloons could possibly be part of the workout I assumed that it was someone’s birthday – well not exactly.  I just wanted to say that after 8 years of being a member at Greco’s, there is never a dull moment.  The balloons were part of the workout, kudos to Paolo for his ever imaginative style of training.  Over the past 8 years, I can remember walking into classes where there were simply a few cones set up around the room, where each station involved an exercise with a cone - jumping over it, push ups with alternating the cone from one hand to the next, and thinking how different the workout was.  I can remember classes where there is nothing set up and thinking that the instructor must of forgot to set up the class, only to find out that the challenge was my own body weight throughout the workout and realizing how unbelievably challenging it was; Classes that take you outside, running up hills, exercises on tractor tires and parking lot exercises where you never look at the lines in a parking lot quite the same way again….and just when I thought I had experienced it all, I was fortunate enough to be part of a fantastic workout that required me to carry around a balloon for an hour, while working through all the stations and the finisher – a workout that required using both my mind and body.  Ingenious!  These are the type of workouts that get featured in magazines like Oxygen, Women’s Health and Men’s Health.  They are the type of workouts that are featured on shows like Jackie Warner’s “Workout” and Oprah Winfrey.  As I think about these challenging workouts I realize how fortunate I am to be part of this leading edge style of training.

Thank you Greco’s for always keeping the workouts interesting, innovative and more importantly challenging!

Tony:

Our family has been clients of Greco Lean and Fit for the past couple of years primarily at your Barrhaven location. I attend classes regularly and my wife and daughter, due to their schedules have worked almost exclusively with Brad for the majority of this past year. Our daughter is attending the University of Vermont on a full athletic scholarship playing Division 1 NCAA hockey. She signed her Letter of Intent last November therefore for most of the year has known where she’d be attending school and conversely started to prepare herself physically for the challenges of playing hockey at an elite level. Through most of last winter she worked with Brad a couple of times per week, dependent on
her school and hockey schedule - and Brad was always willing to work around and accomodate her schedule. In the spring Shannon received her summer workout schedule from UVM’s Strength and Conditioning Coach. I remember a conversation I had with her hockey coach and he mentioned that she should try to follow it as well as she could, but for the most part the new players (especially
freshmen) would show up at camp and although they would think they were in pretty good shape would in fact be in poor shape. During the spring and summer Shannon worked with Brad three times per week and the benefits are already paying dividends. Her team conducted off ice fitness testing this past Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. In conversations with her, she has described the tests
and they sound absolutely gruelling, from high jumps and long jumps to lifting, push-ups, sit-ups, timed tests and aerobic tests - in all instances she has finished in the top 3 spots often perfoming “PB’s” and regularly outperforming her team mates, including upper classmen who are more familiar with what is
expected. In fact, yesterday she set the freshmen record on the bike. Our daughter is the youngest player on her squad. As a December baby she is attending university as a 17 y/o, to say she was nervous would be an understatement (new school, new environment, new country, new team mates) - her ability to perform physically has given her a sense of pride and has immediately gained her the respect of her coaches and team mates. I have no doubt that her work ethic will continue to win her praise. In an email I received from her coach yesterday, he noted that she has obviously worked hard in the off-season.

I want to personally acknowledge the fine work that Brad has done with Shannon for as long as he has been training her. He has always been positive, encouraging and tough when he needed to get more out of her. To her benefit, he reviewed her off-ice conditioning program, identified the areas that she needed to work on and with a plan set out to make her physically and mentally stronger. I have participated in a couple of the sessions with Brad and I know that he never let her cut corners and I know as well that she has always enjoyed her work outs (even when they weren’t that enjoyable). The best part is that she can now see firsthand that hard work really does pay off. I look brilliant because I’ve been telling her for years!

Ironically, we live in Kanata not far from your new location, but find it hard to switch because of how much we enjoy Barrhaven - a credit to your staff especially Josh and Julie.

Thanks,

David Bellefeuille
